  Why is it that people keep on thinking the http://www. in a URI is necessary?

  I think most people — well, most web devs and bloggers at least — understand that the http://www. prefix is unnecessary, but it gives the URI a symmetry that a lot of people seem to find pleasing. I dunno. I hate it when people speak the prefix out loud, but I don’t mind it so much in print.
