It’s a Sign

This is awful but I couldn’t resist, map of Florida counties and how they voted in 2000 overlaid with the paths of Charley and Frances. (14)

That’s definitely a fun graphic. Here’s the Snopes debunking: http://snopes.com/politics/bush/hurricane.asp

I love Snopes, I should have thought to check before posting. If I had gotten it through email I probably would have been more suspicious.

Makes sense to me. Even if it isn’t true. (nah, I’m not that horrible.)

I have only one thing to say about that graphic:

Grrr, Comic Sans!

I heard a comment on NPR while driving that said something to the effect that the “republican horseshoe” region of Florida was worst-hit by the hurricanes, and that republican turnout might suffer in those counties.

Heh. Funny map.

But I was _there_ for Frances, and even if you ignore the fact that the damned storm covered the entire state of Florida, the path of the eye on Bob’s map is wrong; it came inland farther north and went straight through Osceola county (about 35 mi south of my hotel :)

The data is available; it wouldn’t be hard to draw that map with the correct storm paths. Maybe if I’m bored…

Funny picture :-)

Actually, the fist book of Job in the Bible indicates that Satan has controll over the weather. In wich case it would mean the Devil is punishing those who voted for Bush and not God. But then agian, it doesn’t really matter as the map is inacurate…

However, from that map we see that:
1) It is an inaccurate representation of what actually happened
2) It’s blaming God for Satan’s work
3) It uses the most evil font available (Comic Sans) to mislead people.

Thus we can conclude that Bush is working for the forces of good and the forces of evil are attempting to punish those who voted for the better candidate and skew the facts of what happended in an attempt to change people’s minds for the worse. ;)

Yeah please don’t take it too seriously.

“Yeah please don’t take it too seriously.”

I didn’t. Thus the wink and the jab at the font…

Imaging what will happen if they re-elect “Double-Uhhh”. - Better not!

Before the weekend is over, you may get the chance to add the path of Jeanne as well. Yesterday it was following close on Frances. Right now it is heading toward Duval (which is red, of course).

Michael Pate | September 25th, 2004 @ 11:09 am

It is early yet, but if this path holds, you will definitely get to update your map. I will check in tomorrow after we close the Red Cross shelter (assuming that we have electricity, of course).

Well, I am checking on Friday instead of Sunday since it has taken me this long to have a chance to get power back. And I didn’t actually leave the shelter until Monday. Charlie damaged one of the shelters designated for longer use (for people who had no home to return to) and Frances damaged the replacement. Therefore, my shelter became the replacement. And even though some areas had electricity, most areas did not so I spent the last three days handing out food, water and ice. How all of this will affect the election I have no idea, but I do know that the home of the former Chairperson of the County Democratic Party was pretty heavily damaged (since I happened to be with him when he first arrived home).
