He was recognized and called onstage by Jeffrey Zeldman.
Near as I can tell, at 28 minutes flat in the recording Zeldman called Matt up on stage and asked him to tell his story. Matt said that the last time he was at SxSW, it was by way of a borrowed gas card and an overdraft, taking a break from pursuing a degree that had nothing to do with computers. The people he met at SxSW served as a catalyst to start off down the road to where he is now, doing something he loves.
At least that’s how I would summarize it. Also, I might be wrong here, but just after the point when Zeldman calls on him, you can hear a suprised, uh, exclamation in the recording. That must have been a fun moment. 🙂
